We believe that any Brexit would be a disaster for the UK’s universities, colleges and students.

Since the referendum living standards have already fallen, as the pound collapses and inflation rises, while racist and xenophobic hate crime has soared.

We believe that Britain should stay in the Single Market to avoid enormous economic harm and job losses.

We support Freedom of Movement. It allows us to live, study and work anywhere in the EU. Freedom of Movement benefits all of society through boosting jobs and the economy.

We defend the rights of all international students, who make an enormous contribution to the UK. Universities currently receive 15% of their funding from the EU. Losing this will have a hugely detrimental impact – jobs and courses will be cut and some universities may struggle to survive. It’s outrageous that 43,000 UK university staff and 125,000 students from EU countries are being used as a bargaining chip by Prime Minister May – we totally support the rights of EU staff, students and workers to remain here.

Once the government has negotiated the terms of Brexit it is important people are allowed to vote to accept or reject them. A referendum on the actual exit terms would be entirely democratic. Without one they will never have a democratic mandate.

We believe remaining in the EU is the best way to defend our education system and the prosperity of the whole of society from the present racism and austerity.
